Where did I go over the holiday break? I stayed right here in Santa Rosa, California, dedicating my “week off” to a massive project I’m beyond excited about—a 45-page comic book about the Pacific Redwoods along the California coast. A local author wrote the story, and I’m bringing it to life through full-color illustrations. Thumbnails are done, and I just wrapped up page 42 of the rough draft! If you know anything about comic book design, you know there’s still plenty of work ahead, but hitting this milestone makes it feel real. The next step is refining the sketches, adding details, and making sure every panel captures the magic of these towering trees and their ecosystem.

I love using graphic design to inspire, and this project is no exception. The comic introduces kids to the wonders of the Pacific Redwoods, forest critters, and their impact on the environment—through an engaging, and now colorful, story.
And yes, that includes the hilarious reality of nature, like a flying squirrel… well, fertilizing the forest mid-air. Let’s just say my boyfriend gets some funny responses when he asks how my day went! “I’ve been working VERY hard on VERY important things… don’t look!”
As the owner of Cameron Graphic Design, my passion is supporting the good people in this community through graphic design and art. Whether it’s a comic book, branding for small businesses, or community-driven projects, I want my work to make an impact. I’m aiming to see this comic book published in 2025, and it’s a big goal—but the story, the author, and the joy of drawing these redwood-dwelling creatures make it all worth it. I can already picture kids laughing at the silly details, counting trees and critters on the page, and hiking through the redwoods, eyes peeled for the wildlife they saw in the book. If that happens, I’ll know I did my job right.
