Meet Katharine

The artist, the teacher

I’ve been passionate about creating art for as long as I can remember; even my childhood Christmas lists were filled with watercolors, crayons, and beads. That love of creativity led me to study traditional and digital art at Marin School of the Arts and earn a full-ride scholarship to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Today, I work professionally in graphic design, but I have a soft spot in my heart for more traditional arts. I recognize the importance of creativity, and I love making a space where you can explore freely and play, or where I can guide your exploration by using the elements and principles of design (a slightly more logic-based approach to art).

My focus is on helping you create art that serves you. My goal is for you to walk away with a piece you'll be proud to take home, whether you want a structured, educational experience or the freedom to play around.

Drawn To Conclusions

An intro to communication in art using the elements and principles of design

(No paintbrush required)

FINALLY! An actual BEGINNER art book is going to hit the market. The book I wish existed 20 years ago is here!!

This is an art book for non-artists AND artists.

We go over the rules of art and how it communicates. This is the step before the paintbrush is picked up. It explains how messaging in art works with concrete details. While you are reading about the different elements and principles of design, and what they mean, you will also be met with pages of examples designed to make you feel the message too.

At the end of this book, you will have the knowledge and vocabulary to decode art and the world around you like a secret language. This book will teach you how to see messaging in art, but also provide the foundations for creating art with messaging.

Drawn to Conclusions is coming soon to bookstores, libraries, and online stores near you.
